Workmen's Compensation Registration

We've been waiting for one registration since May. I decided to go to the WCC myself to find out what was wrong.

As is the case at SARS, if you are friendly and courteous, they are only too pleased to help. This is what I learned.

1) If you submit by email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. it will be 2 to 3 weeks before they even open your email

2) It is therefore far better to submit personally.

3) You will need a Power of Attorney from the director(s) even if you are the director yourself, appointing you to act on behalf of the company in dealings with the Workmen's Compensation Commissioner

4) You do not need proof of address.

5) Take an original application plus a copy that they will stamp to confirm submission.

6) You can follow up by phone, quoting the company name and registration number.

6) If you have not received an email or SMS confirming registration within 21 working days, go there again with your stamped copy. (I suggest you scan it to your server first). They will then resubmit it and you should get the registration within a further 5 working days.

7) You will then receive a first assessment, usually of R1 000, which must be paid in order to get a letter of good standing.
